Flannel Friday - Felt-y Inspiration

Apologies folks! No post from me for a while, but I'm hoping to put that right very soon. All I need is a little inspiration!

I thought I'd got it when, on a recent visit to London, I came across these lovely packs of flannel sheets. Really the photo doesn't do them justice because they are beautiful.

My problem is I need to make flannels relevant to my baby story timers, and flamingos and exotic frogs don't really relate to life in rural Scotland! Now cherries would work, but I cannot find a book or rhyme featuring cherries for this age group that I like.  I guess what I'm really saying is HELP!  Seriously, if you have any good ideas, please add a comment. Hope you've all been enjoying your 4th July celebrations Stateside.

  1. I did a cherry theme many years ago and used Ehlert's book, Pie in the Sky and the nursery rhyme, Mary at the Cottage door. It was a lot of fun!

  2. Thanks for the suggestions Kathryn. I ordered Ehlert's book right away as we didn't have it in our collection. Look out for a cherry flannel VERY soon!

  3. What age are your babies, LQ? I'm also wondering if you have a rainbow of colours or just pink, blue, and red that you want ideas for?
I just read the post about your laryngitis - I hope you're feeling better now. A friend of mine who is a singer swears by this home remedy (for next time a sore throat threatens story time) Lightly poach some pears until they are soft enough to mash with a fork; mash them and mix with natural unpastuerized honey; take spoonfuls of the mixture frequently throughout the day & try to slow down and rest a bit :)

  4. Amanda, my babies are quite young, many under 6 months, I have my 'old' stash of other colours, just not in shades like these new ones.
I love the sound of your remedy (adore pears). I'll keep it handy for the next time. At present I'm busy making cherries and strawberries!
