I'm making an activity ahead of time for one of our Family Storytimes with the theme GET IN SHAPE! using the books; My Heart Is Like A Zoo, Perfect Square and Robot, Zombie, Frankenstein!
I made flannel/felt pieces for the main characters from the book Robot, Zombie, Frankenstein! by Annette Simon from the Bot Builder patterns (pages 10 & 11) in the Fun Kit provided by the book's publisher.
All the pieces, with the exception of the green robot's necklace, are separate. I plan to get the children to bring pieces up to the front to 'build' the robots while we discuss shapes and colours.
I'm liking the trailer, and hope our mixed-aged group will enjoy the story and craft activity.
Oh, didn't I say? The book hasn't arrived yet, so this will be my first time of making a flannel storytime extension activity WITHOUT having first read the book. It could all go pear-shaped, so wish me luck!
Update: Since publication of this post this flannel activity has been mentioned on author's website on both her news and Robot, Zombie, Frankenstein activity pages - Thank you Annette Simon!

I love this! Your robots are adorable!
ReplyDeleteThanks, it was fun to make something so bright! I like your rockets - space is one of my favourite storytime themes.
DeleteYour robots are perfect! I can't wait to hear more about the book. When does it come out?
ReplyDeleteThe book is out already, some of the other ff-ers have reviewed it on Goodreads (not 5 stars, but it thought it would appeal to the older kids in our family storytimes). My copy is just taking a long time to arrive.
DeleteThe robots are great...very retro. Love the look. ~ jane
ReplyDeleteGlad that you like the robots Jane. I can't take any credit for the design though, only for the cutting out.
DeleteLove the flannel robots--thank you! I hope you enjoy the book as much as I've enjoyed seeing these.

Thanks Annette - It's great to get a comment from the author and illustrator herself! However, I'm beginning to wonder if the copy of the book I ordered is going to turn up (it's taking sooo long). I may have to find another source.
